Convocation with Pastor Bob Coy
March 8, 2010This past Friday, March 5, 2010, Bob Coy, pastor of Calvary Chapel in Fort Lauderdale, Fla .addressed the LU student body in convocation.
Pastor Coy’s aim was to unite both sides of the "age gauge". He referenced the metaphor of an Olympic athlete and their coach. One has the agility, while the other has the knowledge. Pastor Coy touched on four observations that he has noticed about our generation. His fist observation was that the generation of today thinks it is cool to be compassionate. While humanitarian aid and social justice are growing trends among our generation, it is important to remember the Great Commission. Another trend is that the generation of today thinks that it is vogue to be vague. As we desire unity amongst one another, sometimes the Gospel gets watered down. He referenced the packaging of a product. To market the product, you do not change the product, but rather the packaging of it. His third observation was that the generation of today thinks that it is easy to be inept, when God actually called us to excellence. Pastor Coy’s last observation about the generation of today was that we believe it is easy to be relevant. Pastor Coy wants the generation of today to use technology, etc. and use it for Jesus’ name, but to remember the values of our Christian faith.
