Women's Health and Wellness Seminar
March 2, 2010On Thursday night, the third annual Women's Health and Wellness Seminar brought hundreds of young women to Towns Auditorium. The special event was put on by the Student Care Office in order to address issues that are unique to college-aged women.
The main event of the night was a question and answer session about issues that women in college deal with on a regular basis. Several of Liberty's female staff answered questions in a panel that included female representatives from different departments of Liberty University. Dr. Monica Rose, the director of LU's Women's Ministries; Donna Barber, workout instructor at the LaHaye Student Center; Dr. Bev Mahoney, Health Professor; and Terri Page RN, were the four women who took part in the panel. Questions about nutrition, stress, eating disorders and emotions were answered by the judges on the panel according to their expertise.
After the question and answer session, Donna Barber, LaHaye workout instructor, gave a demonstration of a healthy and fun workout routine that included hip hop, squats and lunges.
Several prizes were given away and free smoothie samples were provided by Smoothie King. Information about the Women's Ministry Department, Student Care Office and other helpful resources were available at information tables.
Overall, young women were informed about physical health and also encouraged to find their identity in Christ by feeding on the Word of God. This annual event was a definite success, so be sure not to miss next year's annual seminar!
