Q : Can I find out how courses I have not taken yet will transfer?

A: Yes. You must have an application on file in order to have courses evaluated. If you have been accepted, please create your Liberty University username and password by clicking here. Next, complete the Request to Take Courses at Another Institution.

*Make sure to read the instructions carefully. In order for the courses to actually transfer, you will still need to earn at least a "C" and fulfill any other admissions requirements.

Q: Do transfer students get scholarships?

A: Yes. Some scholarships, such as Phi Theta Kappa and the CVCC scholarship are specifically for transfer students. Please visit the scholarship portion of the Financial Aid page for more information.

Q : What is the application deadline?

A: Liberty has rolling admissions, meaning you can apply any time. However, the priority deadline for the fall semester is February 1. You can apply online or over the phone with an Admissions Counselor at 1-800-543-5317.

Q: How do I know if my credits will transfer?

A: Liberty will evaluate your credits based on official college transcripts. Please allow two weeks for your transcript to be evaluated and the results to be emailed to your Liberty email account. To access your Liberty email, just click "Webmail" after logging into the Liberty portal.

*If you attended a community college in Virginia you can see what credits will transfer into Liberty in our VCCS transfer guide.

Q: What determines if my credits will transfer?

A: Liberty accepts courses and degrees from accredited colleges and universities. Credit will only be awarded for courses 80% equivalent to courses offered at Liberty in which a student received a grade of "C" or better. Credits for study skills courses, remedial courses and internships are not transferable.

Q: Where can I send my transcript to be evaluated?

A: After submitting an application, have your official transcripts sent to the address below:

Liberty University
Attn: Office of Admissions
1971 University Blvd
Lynchburg, VA 24502

Q: How many credits am I required to take at Liberty?

A: 30 semester hours of coursework must be completed at Liberty.
50% of the major and minor must be completed at Liberty.

Q: What will my class standing be?

A: Your class standing is determined by the number of credits you transfer to Liberty.

Freshman — 0-23.99 credits
Sophomore — 24-47.99 credits
Junior — 48-71.99 credits
Senior — 72+ credits

Q: Will my GPA from my previous school carry over?

A: No. Your GPA will start over at Liberty University.

Q: What courses should I take before transferring?

A: Liberty is not able to guarantee that specific courses will transfer. If you look in the course catalog, you can estimate for yourself by looking at the course descriptions. If the courses match up 80%, it is likely that the course will transfer.

*If you attend a community college in Virginia you can look at our VCCS transfer guide to find courses pre-approved for transfer.

Q: What are the minimum requirements?

A: Liberty requires students to be in good academic standing at their previous school at the time of transfer with at least a 2.0 GPA. If you are unsure of your status, contact an Admissions Counselor at 1-800-543-5317.

Q: Do I have to submit my high school transcript? SAT/ACT?

A: If you have an associate’s degree or over 60 hours that transfer to Liberty, you are only required to submit your official college transcript. If you do not have an associate’s degree and you are unsure of how many credits will transfer, we recommend sending your high school transcript and your SAT/ACT score as a precaution. If you are 22 or older, an SAT/ACT score is not required.

Q: What are the requirements for the Honors program?

A: The Honors program requires that applicants have a 3.5 GPA in college and that they apply no later than the spring semester of their freshman year.  Minimum requirement of 1270 for the SAT and 29 for the ACT must be met. Please visit the Honors Program website for more information.

Q. I have been selected for the Two-Year College Transfer Grant Program. What does that mean?

A: If you are eligible for this grant, you should have been notified by your two-year college in Virginia. For more information, please see the Fact Sheet from the visit the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) website.
