TRANSFER STUDENT ADMISSIONS
Several hundred students choose to transfer to Liberty each semester from community colleges, public colleges, and other Christian colleges and universities.
While the process of finding the right fit can be overwhelming, our objective is to help make your transfer to Liberty University as effortless as possible.
Our Admissions Counselors and Transcript Evaluators are trained professionals who provide ongoing support. We understand that you have worked hard for the college credit you have earned and expect to transfer as much as possible toward your degree completion plan. We work hard to ensure that you do not have to repeat an equivalent course that you have previously taken through a regionally accredited college or university.
Transfer Credit Policy
We accept courses that are comparable to the courses taught in our curriculum and are completed with a grade of “C” or higher. Liberty does not accept remedial courses (usually below 100 level) or those courses that are on the Pass/Fail scale. We also do not accept Professional Development, Orientation/Student Success courses, Special Topics, Seminars, or Internships. Please direct any questions about a particular course to the Registrar’s Office.
Transfer Credit Limits
Associate degree – A minimum of 15.0 credits must be taken through Liberty University
Bachelor's degree – A minimum of 30.0 credits and 50% of the coursework required for the major content area must be taken through Liberty University.
Class Rank
Students are considered to be in a class according to the number of credit hours they have transferred:
| Class | Semester Hours |
| Freshman | 0 - 23.99 |
| Sophomore | 24 - 47.99 |
| Junior | 48 - 71.99 |
| Senior | 72+ |
80% Equivalent
In order to receive direct credit for a course, the description must overlap the LU course content at least 80%. Courses that do not match an LU course by at least 80% are eligible to transfer as elective credit. Elective credit is coded as 1XX, 2XX, 3XX or 4XX, depending on the level of the course.
2/3 Rule
In order for a transfer course to meet a particular course requirement, the course must be at least 2/3 of the number of hours of instruction at LU. For example, BUSI 310 is taught as a 3 semester hour course. In order to receive credit for BUSI 310, the course taken previously must be worth at least 2 semester credits, which satisfies the 2/3 rule
Non-Transferable Courses
- Capstone courses
- Some religion courses (BIBL/THEO/PHIL)
- Remedial courses (usually courses numbered 1-99)

- Continuing Education Credits (CEU) (exceptions are those recommended by ACE)
- Internships or practicum will be granted as elective credit only
